Ostara & Spring Equinox

Have I told you how much I love Spring and why?

It’s because the days get longer and summer is coming! I am a light and warm weather girl, for sure!!

Today is the Full Moon and this Sunday marks the Spring Equinox and Ostara. Once upon a time, back in Pagan days, 8 sabbaths were celebrated throughout the year, Ostara is the 3rd.

Ostara was originally celebrated by Germanic pagans for the goddess Ēostre of the dawn and celebrates the balance between the light and the dark.

This is a big deal for most of us who thrive under the sunlight.

It is also a time for renewal, i.e. planting seeds for what you are wanting to grow throughout the season, this may be physical as in plants that we eat, or it can also be goals and inspirations that we want throughout the coming year.

How to celebrate Ostara

If you would like to learn a bit more about how to celebrate, you can download the freebie I created here.

This is a time for some spring cleaning and decluttering your home in order to rid old stagnant air. Open up the windows, invite the spring into your home. You can light some candles to infuse some new scents into your home.

Ostara comes on the heels of today’s full moon, so maybe you would like to light one of my Full Moon Candles as well.

Ostara’s focus is on fertility and renewal.

Some of the traditional colors and symbols of this Sabbath include eggs, fresh flowers, and pastel colors. Oh, and let’s not forget about the BUNNIES!

There is plenty to do to celebrate!

*Decorate eggs.

*Look for bunnies in the yard

*Walk the park and find Spring flowers

*You can start planting your seeds, maybe some herbs for the kitchen, like basil and parsley.

*Find a bakery that makes Hot Cross Buns or better yet, bake a batch yourself with this recipe.

Did you know that the pagan Saxons would bake buns marked with a cross in honor of the goddess Ēostre?

The cross represents the rebirth of the world after winter and the four quarters of the moon, as well as the four seasons and the wheel of life.

Let me know how you celebrate this season.

Happy Spring!
